Dynamics, vibration and impact

Dynamic behaviour and accidental loading.

Dynamic analysis is required when inertia, time-dependent loading or impact changes the structural response. AeroMech evaluates whether resonance, amplification or local damage can govern the structural decision.

Dynamic analysis is required when inertia, time-dependent loading or impact changes the structural response. AeroMech evaluates whether resonance, amplification or local damage can govern the structural decision.

Dynamics require physical interpretation.

A calculated mode or transient response is not useful without understanding the corresponding deformation pattern, load path and sensitivity to mass and stiffness assumptions. AeroMech links numerical results to the physical structure.

Depending on the problem, the assessment may range from a simplified equivalent-static method to a nonlinear transient finite element analysis. The method and level of detail are selected to answer the engineering question.

Typical engineering questions

Questions this assessment can answer.

The analysis is organised around the decision, not around a software package.

Do excitation frequencies coincide with structural natural frequencies?
What dynamic amplification should be applied?
Will vibration contribute materially to fatigue damage?
How does an impact load travel through the structure?
Is local damage acceptable after an accidental event?
Which modelling assumptions dominate the transient response?
Assessment scope

From structural behaviour to a defensible conclusion.

Modal behaviour

Natural frequencies and mode shapes used to understand global and local dynamic response.

Forced response

Harmonic, transient or spectrum-based response under time-varying excitation.

Impact assessment

Energy, contact, inertia and structural deformation during accidental loading.
